“My Purpose Is To SERVE, Support And Strive To Give Mamas Around The World A Healthy, Beautiful and WISE Childbirth & Postpartum Experience!”
Meet Your Doula & Educator
Hola Mami’s! My name is Chrissie and I am officially a Certified Childbirth Doula and Childbirth Educator ready to serve you all here in Austin, San Antonio, Laredo and surrounding areas along I-35 and virtually!
I am a wife, mom of 3 (10, 6, & 2), dog mom and a Digital Lifestyle Blogger, Creator and Entrepreneur. So as you can see I wear a lot of hats but I am grateful for it all! I recently moved to the Austin area from Laredo but am excited to continue servicing Mamas along the border as well as along I-35.
My Journey To Motherhood
I absolutely love being a mommy! I believe that God blessed me with my babies to fulfill a specific assignment and purpose here on Earth. I am so blessed and fortunate to have had great childbirth experiences over the years due to the amount of faith, knowledge AND support that I had with each prenatal, birthing and postpartum journey.
When I found out I was pregnant with my first born in 2013, I was completely shocked, unprepared and nervous to say the least. But I trusted God, my body and did a lot of research! I did all that I could to take care of myself physically, emotionally, mentally and verbally (because our words have power) to prepare me for this new life that I was embarking on. From that, I was able to deliver my Baby Girl vaginally and unmedicated with an amazing birthing team (the same with my second child) in Maryland and learned so much about myself, prenatal and postnatal care and so much more!
Although each journey was different, I was able to fulfill my desire of giving birth naturally 3 Times (I know I’m crazy right LOL). Deep down, I always had a passion for encouraging and inspiring women and mamas on how beautiful (yet unexpected) pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum can be through spiritual and intuitive guidance from God and trusting your body!
Why Did I Become Doula & Childbirth Educator?
“I recognized a problem and want to be a solution for it! “
In December 2020, I found out that I was expecting Baby #3. Unfortunately, the pregnancy ended in a miscarriage (my 2nd one) at 10 weeks. Being that it was my 2nd miscarriage, I knew what to expect but still needed to seek healthcare to make sure that I healed properly.
This unfortunate experience exposed me to the healthcare system in Laredo and how the system operates when it comes to women’s care. While enduring my loss, I experienced some very unfortunate and unexpected health issues and seeking care for those issues seem so farfetched or unavailable to me here locally. I’ve never seen anything like it so I started doing research on maternal care and wellness in Laredo. The research and statistics pertaining to pregnancy, childbirth and women’s wellness that I found were scary and gut-wrenching.
A few to name: High C-Section rates, vast majority male doctors, no doula/midwifery support and so much more. From that, I told myself I didn’t want to have a baby here and if I were blessed to be pregnant again, I would seek prenatal care in San Antonio or elsewhere.
Fast forward, I found out I was expecting again in August 2021. To be honest, I had fears and anxiety about the maternal statistics and healthcare system here (and overall for women of color) and knew that I was going to embark on this journey with care from someone in San Antonio. To my surprised, it just so happened that a midwife, Amanda Cordon, had just started in Laredo. I immediately called to become one of her patients and everything worked out in my favor! #GodIsFaithful She was very understanding, supportive and encouraging throughout my entire pregnancy. By God’s grace, I was able to have a wonderful, and healthy vaginal delivery again!
I realize that most women, especially Black Women, do not have the advocacy and necessary support, care AND education that they need during a time that is supposed to be sacred and beautiful. I was my biggest advocate and very vocal about my needs (especially giving birth in a new area) during my childbirth journey here and my experience turned out better that I expected. I want you to have the same. That’s why I invested in my certification through BEST Doula Training to be of service to you!
And that’s why I am here!
So let’s do this together! :)
